How to use the Calendar

Timing Is Everything

  • Get in tune with nature: discover the nuances of a year divided into 19 seasons.
  • Learn to identify wild flowers the easiest way yet: turn to current season where you are, read about what’s happening at this time; go for a walk and you’re sure to see some of the things you’re looking for.
  • Use it like an almanac: it’s like a bus schedule – telling you what is going on where and when. You can plan picnics, vacations, and special events with pinpoint timing for any location.
  • It’s a reverse field guide: look up some wildflowers shown in your current season; get more detailed identifying features from whatever guide books you have, then go looking for them.
  • Bookmark reminders: make a note of places you want to return to  - you can go back next year at the right time. Or note when a plant is conspicuous (eg in summer bloom) and go back later (eg next spring) to collect edible shoots.
